0000046016Today I fancied a feel-good book. Tucked among the rows of ghost, gore, paranormal and truly apocalyptic reads, the bright orange cover of In Bloom caught my eye. Closer inspection revealed that whilst untimely death does hover a little too close for comfort in this spunky little book, the message is actually more about living life full on no matter what gets thrown your way.  Don’t be tempted to dismiss as yet another teen fiction about cancer.  Obviously  this devastating disease is the main thread that weaves itself through the plot. The author however successfully widens the angle to bring family and friends into focus too. The result is a delightful cast of characters in an emotive but surprisingly funny novel laced with attitude. And if it’s not a feel good book in its truest sense, it’s certainly an uplifting one!
